The XWARN Meeting for May will be held in the Buckeye Room in the 4-H Extension Office at the Fairgrounds. If you are not familiar with the building, just look for the antenna! It is behind the grandstand. If you pull into the Fairgrounds at the entrance right past the horse racing track, keep going forward past where the previous meetings were and take a right. The Statewide Amateur Radio Network (SARnet) is a network of linked UHF voice repeaters that serves the State of Florida. The repeaters are operated by their local trustees and the network that connects them together does not interfere with the local use of the repeaters. These UHF repeaters were specifically chosen in part because the voice traffic on them is light. Ohio ARES to Sponsor “NVIS Antenna Day”

Ohio Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) will sponsor “NVIS Antenna Day” on Saturday, April 25. The idea, said Ohio Section Emergency Coordinator Stan Broadway, N8BHL, is to determine if the sometimes-vaunted near-vertical incidence skywave — or NVIS — concept really works as an antenna for emergency communication on HF. NVIS, is a technique that allows using HF for highly reliable short-range communication. “We are encouraging groups in every Ohio county to devise several portable NVIS antennas that they think will perform, and then actually test them on the air,” Broadway said.
