Silent Key – Jim Beller (KC8OKU)
On June 2nd we lost our good friend and fellow XWARN member, Jim Beller (KC8OKU).
Jim was an army veteran, but he would be well described by the Marine Corps motto “Semper Fidelis” (Always Faithful). Those who knew Jim saw a man who was dedicated to family, church, and community. He was active as a leader in scouting for many years.
Professionally, Jim was a computer systems analyst. His technical background and participation in scouting led to his obtaining an amateur radio license. In just a few years, Jim advanced to the highest license class vailable. He became active in XWARN (Xenia Weather Amateur Radio Net), a club who’s focus is supporting the National Weather Service by providing trained weather spotters and the equipment to facilitate collecting severe weather reports over amateur radio. XWARN is also very active in supporting the community by providing volunteer staffed radio networks that help with logistics and safety for a number of events. Jim seldom missed any of these events.
Recently, Jim was a part of the safety team in support of the Xenia Marathon. He was the first volunteer to sign up for the upcoming Air Force Marathon.
Jim served as XWA?N vice president, president, and membership chairman. In recognition of his exemplary service to XWARN, Jim was inducted into the XWARN Hall of Honor in 2011.
Everyone who knew Jim are really going to miss him. He was a good friend and a good man.
Rest In Peace, Jim.
