The Air Force Marathon will be held on Saturday, September 16. We are forming a team of ham radio volunteers to support the event by operating several networks for logistics, medical information, monitoring and tracking of runners, shadowing of race officials, and support of finish line operations. We need in excess of sixty volunteers to make all of this happen. As this is being written, only 75% of the required number of volunteers have signed up; we could use your help. Most of the race takes place on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (near Dayton) which adds a couple of security complications: registration needs to be completed before the end of August and race day entry to the base requires arrival by 5:30 AM to accommodate ID checks and road closures. To volunteer, go to the web page usafmarathon.com/volunteer/ and select VOLUNTEER NOW.
